Sven Otto is a translator, journalist and librarian, lives in Vienna.
He graduated in Translation studies (Russian, Polish) and Library and information sciences in Berlin, reported as a business editor for many years on Central and Eastern Europe, and works now at the library of the Albertina art museum in Vienna. Started to learn Latvian during a three-years' stay in Ventspils (2005-2008), and has been translating prose, essays and poetry from Latvian to German.
Translated fragments from novels and essays of M. Bērziņš, J. Jaunsudrabiņš, L. Kota, S. Kuzmins, O. Zebris, A. Hermanis, and together with Lil Reif also selected poems of K. Ēcis, L. Purinaša, I. Pizāne, T. Treibergs, A. Punte, V. Svetlovs, E. Bloma, L.M. Roze and K. Vērdiņš (partly published on www.lyrikline.org). Recently published translation of Andris Kalnozols' novel Kalendārs mani sauc (Kalender).
He is currently translating Alberts Bels' novel Bezmiegs (Schlaflos).
