Journalist and novelist Mike Collier (Miks Koljers) was born in Gloucester, England in 1971 and educated at the University of East Anglia. After working for the BBC and the UK Press Association he moved to Latvia in 2007 and worked as a correspondent for news agencies DPA and AFP before setting up an English-language service at Latvian public broadcaster LSM. He naturalised as a Latvian citizen in 2019.
He has written several novels, with contemporary and historical themes and a collection of short stories based upon his experiences in journalism. Unusually, despite being written in English, they have mainly been published in Latvian only. He is currently writing his first Latvian-language novel.
